tierfal: (Izumi - Time to DIE. <3)
[livejournal.com profile] eltea and I were commiserating/despairing yesterday about how Katniss in The Hunger Games takes a turn for the Bella Swan-ish in Catching Fire – apparently having forgotten that she spent the duration of the first book being awesome. Evidently a whole book of female empowerment was exhausting, so it was high time for some boyfriend-related wangst.

Uh, what the hell, culture? Can we please find a way of expressing femininity that involves neither (a) Katy Perry destroying my childhood by turning Candyland into a brothel; nor (b) insecure young women being ordered to prostrate themselves on the altar of man-worship? Related: Fuck you, Katy Perry; learn to spell.

Well, I quit. FUCK THAT NOISE, as Dana from Reasoning with Vampires would say (and often does). I'm going to be an FMA girl. Henceforth will I kick all of the asses and look good. Note: I'm not as concerned about the looking good part; I'd rather have an opponent's blood on my face than makeup.

So here are my FMA ladies and the reasons that they make me proud to bear a second X chromosome.

Mild spoilers. But mostly just love. )

Sometime I might say more about the way male-female relationships manifest in FMA, and why those, too, make me weep for JOY rather than for BOY. In the meantime, if I've missed any ladies from FMA, or if you'd like to add a tribute to your own personal favorite female badass in the comments, please sing her praises below. ♥

tierfal: (Ten :))
Umm... first of all, I'm really sorry if any of the comments and things I left make no sense at all. Saturday started at 7:15 AM and didn't end until... Sunday at about the same time. XD' And then it only really ended for two intermittent hours, which is how long I slept on the couch in [livejournal.com profile] eltea's living room while she was out not-getting cabin fever. XD

The upshot of the GREs. )

Doctor Who, Series Threeeeeeeee. Completely with about a bajillion spoilers. Okay, maybe like five, but it's not like this part will make any sense if you haven't seen the episodes anyway. XD )

P.S. One of my favorite things about entire-season-one-night Who marathons is that my inner monologue frequently lapses into a British accent for days afterwards. XD

And then there he was
In ripped-up, wrinkled jeans
Yeah, there he was
Hope that's what "Justice" means

I smell plots and candy here
Who's that curled up in my chair?
Who's that eating éclairs
And raw strawberries
Ryuk, this Death Note is a scream
Oh, Ryuk, this Death Note is a scream

My absolute, hands-down, favorite thing about Death Note. )

...AGAIN. 8D

But first, the last of a dying breed: my final [livejournal.com profile] brigits_flame entry. XD Turned out better than I expected given that I bitched about it every sentence of the way.

I was too busy whining to mention that another doujin from [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn came on Friday. ajklfdjslkfjsa I love you so much, bb. x) You make me so darn happy. x3

I should edit this to make sure it's coherent.

tierfal: (Charles - srsly ebil)
Or in bees, if you prefer.

Okay, so this duo of memes only took... all... day... XDDD

No, I went out to lunch with my mom, my sister, and my brother, and I had chocolate-mocha cake and licked the plate. Other than that... yeah, all day. XD

A meme of questions! )

And now for something completely different.

Fandom meets LJ. The world will never be the same. (Also, this is pretty sketchy in places, so consider yourself warned. XD) )

tierfal: (Charles - Blue)
1. I sat down and read a book today for the first time in so long I can't remember what the last one was. Even most of the fics I read are short.

2. I'M SUCH A GIRL. XD I watched "Music and Lyrics" with my mom just now. XD

3. I found that song.

You know, that song. )

Uh, 3.5 -- I finished the chapter of "Chocolate" last night. And. Need to edit it. And. Will be grovelling at [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn's feet for a onceover very soon. XD

I'm lame, but you love me. ♥

...I hope. XD

tierfal: (Mello - Reasonable)
Welcome to my new friend [livejournal.com profile] zeda_chan, who is super-adorable and horrifyingly-talented! :D And, accordingly, whose art I've been stalking for like EVER! ^^;

All I did today -- and I mean all -- was to go turn in my Milton paper, then write just enough of "Kiss and Tell" to set L and Light up for a fistfight... which I have since been lame enough not to want to write. What is this?! XD

So then I made a gigantic playlist for the fic instead. Like you do. And then I read the rest of Murphy. XD

Anyway, Colin Morgan is way too damn pretty. )

Uhh... Peep Art VII and Peep Art IX. The first one is substantially funnier, imo. XD

tierfal: (Near)
Blaahhhh endless fic stuff, with Death Note spoilers free of charge. Quickly gets bogged down in an overzealous analysis of random shit at the end of Book 12. )

Umm... I saw this on the way back from retrieving a graded paper today. There was also one that said "smile" and one that said "keep your head up."

They know us too well. o____o

And if you've got the Anna Nalick song stuck in your head now, you're not alone. XD (Also, DAMN, she's hot. I would TOTALLY do her plz.)

And now I'm going to go watch an episode of "Doctor Who" that has Colin Morgan in it, and you can't stop me. >D

tierfal: (Mello - Pimp)
Remember how I said that one of these days, I'd get around to making "Merlin" icons?

Well, that was today. I felt kind of persistently shitty again, and icons are fun. x3 Hence... SEVENTY MERLIN ICONS. Though a lot of them are variations, so that you can have text or not or whatever. :D Now I'm just trying to figure out which ones I want to use. :O I should really just fork up the money for the zillion icons, 'cause I would use them. XD

Anyway... *tantalizing preview*:

No spoilers, really, unless you hadn't figured that a show about Merlin would involve magic and whatnot. :P

If this eye candy doesn't make you want to watch the show at least a little, I have failed my mission. )

Better believe it.

...there'll probably be more when I get some good pictures of the girls. 8D

tierfal: (Matt - Bang)
Hello, friends.

Smothered under this cut you will find ravings about nu musica, lulzing about the perils of writing fanfiction in class, a bit of Merlin, and presumably a great deal of incoherent rambly shit, per usual; all in the vaguely chronological outline of What I Did Yesterday.

Plus some today, I'm sure. And then a meme I couldn't resist, because I suck at life pretty badly and at homework even worse. Oh, yes.

I could be hurtful, I could be purple, I could be anything you like; gotta be green, gotta be mean, got to be everything more; why don't you like me? Why don't you like me? Why don't you walk out the door?! )

Random single sentences from a couple Death Note WIPs. )

...cool beans?

tierfal: (Soap)
You know you write too much Death Note fic when...

...you wonder how Frodo is walking so far away from Sam -- wait, I don't see the chain!!

(The uninitiated may view the Kinky Chain (thank you, me being a perv in TEIN XD) in action here. It's not purely fanservice, I promise! XD)

Also, why do I always forget how much I love the LotR films until I randomly catch one on TV again? O_o

Coffee Break, and at the comm.

Happy birthday, dear Liiiight-oooo...! 8D

So my evening consisted of dashing that off, remembering why I saw "The Two Towers" five times in theaters (and squealing accordingly), and making apple pie with my mother, because we are that Suburbia. >3

If I can make it the three weeks to Spring Break, I think I will survive this semester.

Near Day

Yes, it's Near Day at last.

We've been waiting for Near Day since November twenty-seventh-or-so.

If you're not a Death Note loser fan, you should probably run screaming in the other direction... now.

*Spoilarz Liek Whoa*

You know you love it.

Run. Run fast.

Tierfal Owns Souls; Also, She and Eltea Need More Sleep and Less Death Note )

Whew. /fangirly glee and absurdity of epic proportions XD

tierfal: (L)
Because you can never have too many icons.

Also because I can't write today, because I'm a lame-o.

w00t for lame-os?  We're like Cheerios, but slightly less edible and a lot less awesome.

And less cheery, but that's a given.

Mostly Mikami, with a bit of editorializing thrown in )

...that's all I got.
tierfal: (L)
I've had "Getting Away with Murder" by Papa Roach on repeat all day today.  To class, from class -- well, actually, most of that was talking on the phone to [livejournal.com profile] eltea, come to think of it -- and on the train to get much of the way home.

WHY, you ask?  I'LL TELL YOU!

Answer under the cut, omg!! :O )
You say "raving, drooling, lunatic-fangirl" like it's a bad thing... D:
tierfal: (Trust Me)
Or, "In Which Tierfal Fangirls a Guy Who Died in 1616."

I like my Shakespeare class pretty well this semester, 'cause my teacher is insightful and one of those harmless-old-dude types who gets kind of excited over this or that soliloquy.  You probably know the type. XD

In any case, today was particularly interesting, because we watched three film versions of Act 1, Scene 2: the '82 BBC one, Laurence Olivier's '56 version, and the '95 one with Ian McKellan.

As I'd sort of expected after watching a bit of Oliver's Hamlet, I thought that as Richard, he was kind of wooden and really hasn't earned his reputation as the definitive Shakespeare-Actor-Man (Kenneth Branagh, anyone?).  I was pleasantly surprised with the BBC one, since the beginning of their Comedy of Errors wasn't anything too terribly spectacular.  And I knew Ian McKellan was going to make me squee a great deal, and of course he delivered. ;)

Anyway, if you've got, y'know, twenty-five minutes or so to kill, you, too, can admire them, thanks to the wonder of YouTube. :D

So here's the BBC version; the Olivier version; and the Ian McKellan version, which is the order we watched them in during class. :)

Now that I have culturally enriched you, I should go attempt to get a start on the pile of homework swamping my sad little existence... Or maybe start writing the essay for this Shakespeare class of mine, which happens to be due Thursday. XD
tierfal: (SQUEE!)

Struck is composed of Matt/Mello-y goodness.  It pleases me.  And [personal profile] jenwryn left me a wonderfully sweet review, and I am gleeful. 8D

There are also icons.  Lots and lots of icons.  Most of which were born a couple days ago at some ungodly hour of the night/morning.

...the first step is admitting that you have a problem.

Which I sure as hell ain't gonna do. 8D
tierfal: (Default)

...so maybe I do have an unhealthy obsession with L.

...you're just lucky I haven't gotten to Mello and Near icons yet. >:D
tierfal: (SQUEE!)
So my sister and my mom and I went to see "Mamma Mia" today, partly just for the uber-chick-flick-mania of it.  And partly because ABBA IS THE BESTEST.

So now I'm going to fangirl about this movie.  Ready?  Good.

Where to begin?  And how to do it at all without just listing the songs and spoiling the fun? XD

Well, for starters, it's just a pretty movie.  It was all filmed in Greece, so there's all this turquoise water and robin's-egg-blue sky all over the place, and every now and then, they throw in a bunch of sparkles and sequins. 8D  The cast of mostly-real-actors turn up some pretty darn good voices, and Meryl Streep especially is a powerhouse.  It's a bit of a shame Pierce Brosnan gets the most to do out of the Trio of Potential Dads, because Colin Firth sounds better.  And I dunno, I'm more endeared to him somehow.  Underdog complex, maybe? XD  Anyway, the main girl's cute, though she cries too much, and her voice is extraordinary.  The supporting characters are far, far too much fun.

The songs were great -- well-integrated, on the whole, even though in this case, the musical was crafted around the songs, rather than the other way around -- particularly the ones they turned into really big numbers.  "Does Your Mother Know" and "Take a Chance on Me" were hilarious.  I couldn't stop grinning during "Dancing Queen"; those three minutes were definitely my favorite part of the whole film.  They did pretty much all the songs I love justice (and introduced me to a couple I'd never heard), but for "Gimme Gimme Gimme," of which they used the riff very well -- but when it came down to performing it, it didn't get enough focus, I thought.  Then again, I'm a wee bit biased, seeing as how that's my all-time best-ever favorite ABBA song in existence...

And I was all sad they'd skipped "Waterloo," but then they did it during the beginning of the credits, and I was like "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" 8DDD

We stuck ABBA GOLD in the CD player as soon as we got into the car, and the fun hasn't stopped since. :D
