1. Has anyone else realized that the DW/TW-verse is pretty much heroin? Tea with Jack, Jack/Ten/Ianto; and Meanwhile, at 10 Downing Street, Master/Ten crack. Both written for [livejournal.com profile] eltea to take on the plane with her way back when. And I wrote an Ianto drabble yesterday. Which I'll post someday. XD

2. TW 2.9 and 2.10 -- LOL I LOVE THIS SHOW.

3. Last night, I read a 70,000-word Merlin fic in one sitting. It's called The Knights Have a Thousand Eyes, and it's hysterically funny and remarkably insightful and incredibly poignant. Make time.

4. [livejournal.com profile] help_haiti is doing an amazing thing -- that is, a massive fanwork auction. Buy me plz. I will reward you in the afterlife. And/or a lot sooner, with awesome fic. ♥

tierfal: (Arthur)
....because I'm obviously doing my homework right now.

Or editing my Statement of Academic Purpose. Or emailing all the schools I need to check shit with. Or getting ahead before the nightmare that is tomorrow begins. Or something helpful.

Instead of.... good heavens, this sentence is long enough to need a cut. )

Anyway, my evening was salvaged by [livejournal.com profile] eltea distracting me from things I should be doing (and I do mean that in the best possible way :3) and by [livejournal.com profile] missusjackson, who wrote me an A-MA-ZING fic about Remus and Sirius that you should reeeeeead -- Going to Pasalacqua; it's cute and hilarious and really poignant in all the right places. ajklfdsjkl yay. x3

Fffffffff. Okay. XD Hopefully I'll be more fun tomorrow. :|

tierfal: (Charles - Blue)
1. I sat down and read a book today for the first time in so long I can't remember what the last one was. Even most of the fics I read are short.

NIGHTRUNNER IS, AS ALWAYS, MADE OF WIN. )

2. I'M SUCH A GIRL. XD I watched "Music and Lyrics" with my mom just now. XD

CHIIIIICK FLIIIICK. )

3. I found that song.

You know, that song. )

Uh, 3.5 -- I finished the chapter of "Chocolate" last night. And. Need to edit it. And. Will be grovelling at [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn's feet for a onceover very soon. XD

I'm lame, but you love me. ♥

...I hope. XD

Tierfal's Mom: [Tierfal's step-dad] was saying I should have married him first. But since I got married when I was twenty-three, he would have been... seventeen.
Tierfal: And then I wouldn't exist! And that would be a tragedy that the WORLD COULD NOT SUSTAIN!

...trufax.

Further proof comes in the form of Chocolate Always Loves You Back, Chapter Nine. I don't want it to end, but it's decided that the last few pieces are going to come together soon. Reason #8985 why I have a love-hate-torrid affair relationship with fanfiction, amirite? XD (...I'm kind of blasé on the whole thing after having been up until two writing it; mea culpa. :|)

I learned from the master (i.e., [livejournal.com profile] eltea), however: the way to write mystery is to drop hints and then distract the reader with fluff and/or UST.

This is among the many reasons why [livejournal.com profile] eltea is a genius. (See The Killing Lights for Harry Potter; Alive for Death Note... and Martyr, which is not a mystery, but which is one of the greatest fics ever written, period, next paragraph.)

...anyway. *blinks*

Dear F-List:

Why do you all decide to be sad when I leave for twenty-four hours? I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY, MY DARLINGS. ;_____; Please accept my retroactive ♥s and apply them appropriately.

Love, Tierfal ♥

Junk food and Star Trek. )

I'll probably ficspam you poor dears later; I've got a crapload of stuff that needs to get posted. :| And then a crapload more to write. o_o;;

tierfal: (Mikami)
La la la la, random random random. I am clearly not procrastinating. >_>

Today. Starting at one in the morning for some reason. )

Anyway.

I like ending posts with "anyway"; I'm sure I could draw an elaborate metaphor from this. XD

tierfal: (Confused Jack)
Uh oh, guys. She's using the Gay Icon.

First of all, wtf Script Frenzy?!! and other assorted things... )

And now today's important story. Ish. Is anything I say really important? XD

Why a mediocre RickRoll cost Tierfal fifteen dollars (and why it was worth it) )

Eh, the rest of my homework can go die; I have a few more lines of too-snappy dialogue in me, and I need to get more than three hundred words into that Merlin fic. XD

Yarly. O_O

tierfal: (L and Misa)
Couldn't sustain a mood like that one for long -- certainly not with top-volume Mika and one of those gorgeous-blue-sky days that makes everyone in the country think California kids can't handle averse weather conditions.

Would you like my 113-degree July? 8D

...[livejournal.com profile] jenwryn is not impressed. XD

So anyway... )

I'll probably remember all the other things I was going to say the second I hit "Post." XD

First, though, you guys are all fantastically wonderful to me, and I really do appreciate it. ^^

*sneaky edit ftw* If you're into Merlin, you muuuuust read [livejournal.com profile] crazyboutremmy's fic here. It's just MADE OF WIN. XD

Oh, yeah, another thing that made me happy today was remembering that I won the internet last night on the One-Sentence Porn Meme. XD (I'm breaking anonymity and DO NOT CARE. >3)

tierfal: (Mello - Pimp)
Umm... I read M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang this morning and on the train. Mind fucking BLOWN, guys. It's loosely based on this real French diplomat who was in China and had a major affair with a Chinese opera singer, who happened to be a Communist spy extorting him for information.

And a guy, which the French dude managed not to be aware of for about twenty years.

It's insanely good, and there's a lot about fantasy/reality, and love, and sex, and sexism, and racism, and colonialism.

I really want to see it performed one of these days. Maybe I'll check out the film.

I also really want to accuse everyone who writes L/Light of being an imperialist pig.

Including ME. >D

In other news, I found a new way to waste time last night.

Error: You are an unrepentant Death Note fangirl. )

Go here to make your own bizarre error messages to your heart's content. XD

Lesson One

Feb. 3rd, 2009 02:58 pm
tierfal: (Mello - Reasonable)
Today we have Lesson One on the subject of Why One Should Be Careful At All Times When Translating Media: Cultural Context.

In which Death Note gains some unintended deeper meaning. )

tierfal: (Bottle)
Oh, yes. Lots of it.

First-off, all the latest crap:

"Mortals" for [livejournal.com profile] brigits_flame. I was up until 5 AM writing the damn thing, as [livejournal.com profile] eltea and [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn can testify. XD And I scared the shit out of myself in the process; it's easily the creepiest thing I've ever written. XD

And some Death Note, of course. The first is a drabble composed of virtually nothing but Matt/Mello innuendo, which is the best kind. Or something. :P It's called Shameless, and I actually said "Oh, God" aloud when I typed one of the lines. XD

The other is the thing I wrote trying to start Shameless, which is kind of sad and resigned and... the usual. XD Okay, or here at the comm. Also Matt/Mello, and has B in it, for some unknown reason.

And now for a list of things that I was going to post about yesterday, but was not coherent enough to follow through with posting. )

Moar ficspam tomorrow. XD

tierfal: (Mello - Pimp)
In fact, pretty much all I did today was watch TV with my mom. Crazy-awesome, I know. XD

We saw an episode of "House" over lunch, followed by... uh... OH YES an episode of "Fringe," which was awesome. My mom had told me about it, but it was just excellent. XD I've also been watching "Sanctuary" with my mom and my sister on Fridays, which is fun, too. And then tonight we watched "NCIS" and "The Mentalist." :P

I never watch TV at school because I have no TV. XD Obviously I could watch stuff on my computer, but... I don't. XD

Forgot to link to the bit of fanart I drew a zillion years ago and colored while I was at my dad's house, for "Alive" by AlienABC's.

I also drew L at the Ricochet last night, not nearly as well as thi_hoai did the other day, dear God. *worships*

Mine mostly just looks like a very frightened emokid. Kind of reminds me of Metis from Honeydew Syndrome, really. :P

I meant to do many important things today. Other than TV, I got sucked into my box set and reread most of DN Book 9 and all of 1, and now I'm halfway through 2.

It's, uh, research. For all the fics I'm not writing because I SUCK. XD

And I talked to [livejournal.com profile] eltea and [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn online, of course. 8D

help plz

Oct. 22nd, 2008 06:39 pm
tierfal: (L - Bewildered)
I am in need of a wee bit of advice, pretty plzes.

So NaNo is coming up.  Precipitously.  And I'm not sure what to do.

My original plan was to decide to write simply a grand total of fifty thousand words over the course of November, for various different things, all over the place, just fifty thousand damn words by 11:59 November thirty-first.  I can't think of anything novel-y I want to write, and though my once-upon-a-time plan was to continue the ridiculous fantastical...ness... that was Wythword, (a) I used all the good stuff in '06; (b) I think I've changed too much to find it as compelling as I did then; (c) I sure as hell don't want to figure out what should happen next, since it would need to develop some semblance of a plot at this point; and (d) It would turn into slash faster than you could say "Bryen/Ravis plz?"  XD  But last night I was realizing that another thing I could do would be to write the third and final part of the Her and Me series.

Yeah.

I went there.

Well, haven't yet.

But there's a couple problems with that idea, which I will list for you now, in easy-to-read numerical format o' doom:
1. I'd be rushing.
2. There would not only be more filler than usual, it'd be BAD filler.  Well, "particularly bad filler," I should say.
3. It probably wouldn't be as amusing, since I wouldn't be able to sit and wait and rack my brains for funny stuff.
4. Given my attention span or lack thereof, I might get bored.  And if that happened, I might abandon it.  Which would be even worse than the egregious procrastinating I've been doing thus far.  Maybe. XD
5. I'm highly out of practice in the Potterverse, though I suppose I pulled off "Betelgeuse" all right, and TEIN Mello is a bit like HaM Draco, at least enough to frighten me a little. XD  Blame Yadrogan, who is the manic!hot boy precedent. :P

Soooo... I was also considering writing one of my zillion planned DN fics for NaNo, but I wouldn't want any of those to suck, either.  Though I was half-planning one that would be unabashedly stupid in the first place, so maybe it wouldn't even be an issue there. XD

In any case... any thoughts/suggestions/death threats? XD  I trust you guys. ;)

I'll have some fic crap up later, but in the meantime, cut your teeth on a fic that will blow your mind utterly. O_o  It's dark and strange and totally engrossing, and it's defintely some of the most poetic prose I've ever encountered:

The Cup of Trembling by Qismat Qami
AU. LxLight, dark!fic. "As I was going up the stair I saw a man who wasn't there.  He wasn't there again today.  I wish, I wish, he'd stay away."

(Psst -- [livejournal.com profile] eltea -- is this the one you were mentioning a while ago, but unfavorably? XD)

tierfal: (L - Bewildered)
I was honestly going to sit here, at three o'clock this morning, after having pounded out a surprisingly not-that-atrocious French essay, and write you all a FAT emo post.  I was, my roommate's sleeping through the night be damned.

Then MiaoShou ruined my sulk by replying to some of my "Only You" reviews and hitting up "The Margins."  Boy is.  Too cute.  To live.  It's absolutely criminal.

I don't think I've extolled the wonders of my headphones to you lovelies before.  This is what they look like.  My stepmom got them for me for Christmas two years ago, and at first I was leery of them, because they function like earplugs -- you can't hear anything except the music, and that loudly and clearly.  I was quite reasonably concerned I'd get run over, the way I walk around -- like I've got the RIGHT OF WAY or something.  *glares in general direction of nearest motorists*

Eventually my cheap headphones broke, and I realized how AMAZING these are, precisely because they block everything else out.  It's fantastic for concentrating on stuff, and the real benefit is that no one else can hear what I'm hearing.  So I can saunter along at nine-thirty this morning listening to "Lollipop (Candyman)" by Aqua at a volume damaging to my eardrums, and no one is the wiser.

I have a thing for awful music.  I love it.

I HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE. 8D

...categorizing T.A.T.U. as rock is a little bit creative, but whatever.

And if you haven't checked out "Bad Boy," you must.  It will change your life in a small but significant way.

It's funny about "I Kissed a Girl" -- I'd caught wind of the vague, halfhearted sort of controversy/interest about it, but I didn't actually hear it until that wedding a few weeks ago.  At which point I was quite predictably like, "HOT DAMN, this is WIN!"  I love that she presents it almost as a challenge, like, "Yeah, I kissed a girl -- and I liked it.  Whatcha gonna do, huh?"  The video enforces that even more adamantly, which I hadn't realized until... four minutes ago when I started watching it. :P

Anyway.  Today decided to be unexpectedly good.  Weird.  Doesn't hurt that I'm back at it on "The End Is Near," and I'm about to get to the club scene.  Yeah.  There's a club scene.  It'll probably go on forever, becuase I'm not (...too) ashamed to admit that I'm a sucker for that crap. 8D  It's actually sorta pivotal, though, 'cause some of the drama combusts.  DRAMA.  YEAH.

Now I'm just spewing words; I'll go now.  You can probably expect a full-blown emo post later, when studying for my midterm, a pointless exercise for my seminar, and a shitload of history reading plus assignment eradicates the remnants of the crack. XD

tierfal: (Near)
So let's talk about Death Note fic. Because I want to.

First, pimpage that you MUST observe.

Alive by Alien ABC's
What was Lind L. Tailor's crime, and why was his case kept so secret? Wammy's House, the number Thirteen, and the month of October. Some ghosts are hard to lay to rest.

Why must you observe it? Because it is Halloween incarnate. Because it has a brilliant mystery gearing up to blow your mind, and because said brilliant mystery is poignantly encased in autumnal reverence, beautiful characterizations, and exquisitely adorable Wammy's fluff. 8D

Okay. Now let's talk about fic.

Useless Babbl -- Er, a Special Preview... )

In the non-fic-related sphere of whining, I keep going to bed at eleven, when my roommate does, simply because I have nothing better to do. This results in about nine hours of sleep. For some reason, I'm more tired than I tend to be with seven. Maybe nine's too much.

Over and out, loves.

tierfal: (Confused Jack)
[livejournal.com profile] jenwryn makes me flail with joy.  She wrote a superfantabulous, adorably sweet Mello/Near this time, because she is the most amazing thing since... amazing things.

To Speak of Rules and Privilege

*flails with joy a little more*

...I'll probably have a real entry later, when I'm all bored as hell and whatever else I usually am.  That thing.

My computer is acting up.  Yesterday its screen was all like FAIL, and [livejournal.com profile] baronanriel called one of his particularly techie friends, who thought maybe it was the backlight on the screen.  Except it works fine when it's sitting on a flat surface, just not when I've got it in my lap... "What the CRAP?" is all I got.

Speaking of [info]baronanriel, he gets intense amounts of brownie points for putting up with my shit yesterday.  I was getting progressively more emo as I got more frustrated with the damn machine.

I didn't get eliminated from [livejournal.com profile] brigits_flame.  On the upside, I've never made it this far before.  On the downside, I expected to get eliminated and thus (a) haven't even considered starting; and (b) have to write something last-week-of-contest-worthy.  DOOD WUT.

Question for you, darlings -- is it wrong that I'm so much of an icon whore that I'm considering buying myself an LJ subscription for the sole reason that then I can have way more userpics?  Yes/No/LAWL UR RETARD?

tierfal: (L)
But the question is... are they sickly ficlies? D:

I think I am a sickly ficly.  I'm definitely coming down with something.  x(  If I'm smart, I will attempt to stave it off with sleep.  Which will entail writing the "one-to-two-page" paper due tomorrow before a reasonable hour.  One to two pages is nothing, but a nothing that I should shut the hell up and write, forthaluvvaGod. >_>

[livejournal.com profile] richelle2972's epic birthday present crossover holy shit why did [livejournal.com profile] eltea and [livejournal.com profile] tierfal do that to themselves fic is now starting to be available for the public to enjoy.  It's true.

What is it, you ask?  Why, a Phantom of the Opera/Death Note crossover, entitled Blood-Red.

It has prompted me to examine my FF.net stats.  I find scary things when I do that.  The ungodly success of "Her and Me" never fails to frighten me.  My general stats go as follows:

You are on the favorites list of 203 members.

You are on the author alert list of 146 members.

You have submitted a total of 245 signed reviews.

Total words archived : 267,315 words.

Avg. number of words per entry : 8,623.

Numbers of hits to your profile page : 13522.

Dear (reindear?) Santa,

I've been a very good girl this year.  Except for all the smutty fics I read.  And all the people I vituperated in my head.  And all the other nefarious shenanigans I got up to.

By which I mean, I haven't the faintest idea what your'e talking about, Santa.

Anyway, I've got almost everything I want -- except this one last thing I need.

A LIFE.

Pretty plz?

~Tierfal

I broke the thirty stories mark yesterday with Marmy's fic.  Wow, guys.  Wow.  And that doesn't count the stuff on Ink.  And the stuff languishing on my hard drive.  Wow.  Um.

*Pimpage:*

Hold Me by Alien ABC's
The life of L Lawliet, in eight hugs.

tierfal: (SQUEE!)
VRY EXCITING!!!!

Wanna know what it is?  Wanna wanna wanna?

I finished [livejournal.com profile] marmaladefever's birthday fic! 8D

You can find it on fanfiction.net now.  It is entitled... "Betelgeuse". 8D  Marmy basically handed the whole thing to me with the prompt, and I am quite pleased with how it turned out.  ^_______^

And there's MORE EXCITING NEWS than just that -- [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn's podficcing finally got me going when I discovered that there was a program called 'Sound Recorder' on my computer.  It's not exactly an auditory magnum opus, but here is Betelgeuse, podfic'd.  Now you can hear my wretched California vocal tendencies, underpinned by my pervasive cynicism, all in my hereditary low voice.  It's my mom's side of the family... D:

Anyway, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!! ^_^

OH YEAH and [livejournal.com profile] jenwryn has now officially joined the highly-addictive world of Death Note fic with a beautiful Matt/Mello piece: Mainsprings and Crown Wheels.  Check it ouuuuuttttt.

YAY.  x)

Fail.

tierfal: (Blue Rose)
Today is a failure, and if I was smart, I would just go back to bed and pull the covers over my head and pretend it never happened.

Free pimping for [profile] orual_dreaming, who won the Ink contest-y thing that was going on in my peripheral vision, and who accordingly is getting featured, and whose work is accordingly -- and quite deservedly -- on the forefront.  Last night I read Falling Into Pale, and it blew my mind, and you should read it, too, because it is amazing.

After I read it, I was inspired enough to decide to dredge up some Dark Place, so I wrote some crap.  Revel in its majesty.  And by "majesty," I mean "teen angst, but with some token Harry Potter details crammed in there."

There is slightly silly Sam and Adrian to be found as well, which is the little bit I cranked out while babysitting.  It's mostly just for the lulz.  But everyone can do with a good lul every now and then.  Mark is for the win.

Lame HTML tags required to submit writing everywhere I go are lame.  Stupid italics.  I are too much drama queen and employ them much too frequently.

My dad is being a dorkwad and a meanie poo-head, and I'm tired of his crap.

I need to go talk to awesome people and stop being emo.  BAD EMO KID.  NO MORE EYELINER FOR YOU.
